Culturally Responsive Therapy with Brianna Blackshear, LGSW

There comes a moment when you realize you cannot keep being strong in the same ways.

You’ve built a life on competence, on excellence, on figuring it out and you’ve been the one people rely on. You are the one who anticipates, over-prepares, and holds it together. And yet, in this season, something feels different. The old roadmap you’ve always used doesn’t quite work anymore.

When you’re navigating a major life transition (a career shift, motherhood, going to college, partnership changes, relocation, leadership, loss, etc), you are often becoming a new version of yourself. What used to make you successful feels insufficient now. Instead of extending yourself compassion, your inner critic gets louder and you tell yourself you should be handling this better.

I work with women who are ready to engage in therapy consistently and intentionally. Women who are not looking for quick fixes, but instead are looking for meaningful growth. You are ready to face the truth that this chapter you’re in requires new skills because you’ve never been here before. Struggling in a new season is not a personal shortcoming, it’s evidence of growth.

Specialized Support for Black Women

As a Black Woman Therapist, I become a steady voice of reason when your inner critic takes over. I will help you recognize when you’re being hard on yourself and remind you that you already have more capacity than you think. We’ll explore the strategies that once protected you and work to clearly identify which ones you’ve outgrown.

You’re ready for this process because you know that growth often means releasing control. Our sessions are a moment for release and a space where you don’t have to perform, anticipate, or prove. Together, we practice slowing down. We incorporate intentionality. We loosen the grip of perfectionism and expectations. You’ll learn practical, grounded skills for navigating brand new terrain with clarity and self-trust.

Therapy with me is not about arriving at a particular destination. We are always becoming. Your life may follow a pattern of perpetual newness: new levels, new roles, new responsibilities. Instead of chasing certainty, we build resilience. Instead of demanding mastery, we cultivate flexibility.
